Suleymaniye kompleks bangunan wakaf yang dibina oleh Sultan Suleiman I (Suleiman al-Suleiman) pada 1550 dan siap pada tahun 1957. Kompleks ini dibina di puncak bukit di Istanbul. Suleymaniye kompleks terdiri daripada bangunan yang dibina secara teratur dan sistematik ke dalam kota yang penuh dengan kehidupan. Di samping itu terdapat juga kompleks kompleks Suleymaniye pernah dibina sebelum ini, seperti Beyazit Complex 1, Kompleks Kompleks Mehmet II dan Selim I. Dalam empat kompleks, Suleymaniye Complex adalah kompleks bandar yang terbesar dalam kerajaan Uthmaniyyah (Necipoğlu, 1985).
Suleymaniye kompleks dibangunkan atas konsep wakaf. Wakaf bertujuan kebaikan (taqarrub) dan mendekatkan diri kepada Allah SWT (Qurba). Tujuan daripada jumlah peruntukan yang ditetapkan adalah untuk kebaikan Islam dan umat manusia. Kelebihan termasuk bukan sahaja umat Islam tetapi juga bukan Islam juga. Manfaat bukan sahaja kepada manusia tetapi juga haiwan dan alam sekitar diambil kira (Mohamad Akram Laldin, Mek Wok Mahmud dan Mohd Fuad Sawari, 2008). Aspek yang baik terdiri daripada membasmi kemiskinan, meningkatkan pendidikan, kesihatan, perbandaran, agama dan apa-apa yang memberi manfaat kepada masyarakat.
