Teori sifat, sebaliknya pula menyalahkan tingkah laku agresif atau jenayah ke atas individu yang mempunyai sifat-sifat fizikal atau psikologi yang menyimpang. Andaian teori ini berhujah bahawa tingkah laku agresif sebagai impulsif atau naluri bukannya pilihan rasional (Siegel, 2002: 47). Sesetengah pakar sarjana berpendapat bahawa punca tingkah laku agresif adalah berpunca daripada psikologi seseorang individu. Mereka menganggap bahawa kebanyakan tingkah laku agresif adalah manifestasi daripada beberapa masalah psikologi. Perspektif ini menjelaskan jenayah adalah teori personaliti, teori psikoanalitik dan corak pemikiran jenayah (lihat Arrigo, 2006: 20). Teori-teori ini berkongsi pandangan bahawa tingkah laku agresif dan jenayah berasal daripada struktur personaliti dan proses kognitif seseorang individu (Arrigo, 2006: 20).
